Purtian Life

What do you think of when you see the word "Puritans"?  What comes to mind when you think about the formation of the 13 colonies?

  1. Puritans where like the pilgrims right? The formation of the thirteen original colonies, I think of the British people sailing over towards what would later become America. I know the colonists in America weren't treated all so well by the British Government. They were also dragged into the French & Indian War. At least they won I guess. That's about what I know.

  2. When I think of the word Puritans, it reminds me of History class. I remember hearing the word before, but I don't remember what it means. When I think of the 13 colonies, I think of Christopher Colombus finding America. I also think about the Revolutionary War and America fighting for freedom. It also reminds me of the Civil War. It makes me think about the North fighting against the South to free slaves.

  3. When i think of the word Puritans it reminds me of god. It reminds me of people close to god and that worship him. Another thing i remember about it was how they hung witches. Im not sure if this is exactly what it means but i remember hearing it from history class last year. When i think of the 13 colonies i think about the formation of our country. 13 colonies is how everything started out.

  4. When I see the word 'puritan' I think of a cub or a bear... only because I have no idea what it means. What comes to mind when I think about the forming of the 13 colonies is social studies. We learned about this it was during the early years of America. I don't care much about it... history is rather boring. Benj Frank was involved in it...

  6. When I see the word Puritans, I just think pure. People who are at one with themselves. Although I think that is totally wrong, that's what comes to my mind when I see the word "Puritans". When thinking about the the foramtion of the thirteen colonies, I think of buliding of houses and people trying to find food. When the thirteen colonies were formed, people stuck together to form a place to live in. Back then, they didn't have all of the things we have today.

  8. When I see the word "Puritans" I think of the word "pure". I seem to recall learning about the Puritans in History previously. I think they were fighters of some sort. The formation of the 13 colonies makes me think of the start of America. I remember learning about that in elementary school. I also think of Virginia.

  9. When I see the word "Puritans" I think of history class. I also think of the pilgrims and the old times back then. Although i am not sure if thats right. When I think of the 13 colonies it makes me think of elementary school. I remember leaning about them, but i don't remember what it was. I also think back to Columbus's time, because back then it was only the 13 colonies.

  10. When I see the word Puritans, I think of old people from when the colonies were first formed. But oddly enough, before that, I think of the whtie shirts they used to wear, at least, the white shirts I think they wore. They were made of cotton, had little strings in the front instead of buttons. As for the formation of the thirteen colonies, I don't think much of it. A bunch of people crossed the ocean and made houses in the "new world." Other than that, I don't think much of it. History isn't oneo f my best subjects so I guess that's why i don't really think much of the historical aspects of the formation of the colonies.

  11. When I see the word “Puritans” I think of the beginning. I think of what difficulties and hardships the early people went through to establish the base of what we now refer to as the “United States of America”. I also see the word “pure”. I see that word in the opposite of what it really means. One can not be pure if they bring disease to people. When it comes to the formation of the original 13 colonies I see men putting years upon years of blood, sweat, and tears into beliefs and values.

  12. When I see the word Puritans I think of the Salem Witch Trails. I also think of the Pocahontas story. It also reminds me of a lot of fear that when on back in that time that had to do with religion and misconceptions. I felt so sorry for all the wrongly accused people and how their families lost them because of false accusations. Puritans in my mind are "pure" hence their namesake or supposed to be. I think of the lame little pictures we used to see in elementary school of people in black and white.

  13. What comes to mind when I see the word "Puritans" is religious and social persecution, along with hypocrisy. When the Puritans came to America, it was in search of religious freedom, as everyone in Britain was required to be the same religion. Or something like that. So then Puritans decided to be paragons of virtue just so that they could look down their nose at everyone else and persecute them. So I'm not a great fan of Puritans. When I think of the formation of the thirteen colonies, I think of the fallacy that was separating them into 13 parts, which is of course a heinously unlucky digit. And I also think of a country in its infancy, like a squalling baby who resists their mother.

  14. When I see the word Puritan I do see the word pilgrim. Which is greatly connected to the 13 colonies because most of the population and the start of the colonies was because of pilgrims or Puritans. Many came over the the so call "New World" to clam land or have there religious freedoms. But they were still not as free as they thought they would be until the 1700 with the Revolutionary war.

  15. When I see the word Puritans I think of pilgrims. When I think about the formation of the 13 colonies I think about history and the past. Our country used to be so small. It was only made up of 13 colonies. Now we have 50 states. It's amazing how much everything has changed.

  16. When I see puritains, I think of really religous people. People who were really strick. When the orignal 13 colonies were made I think of pilgrims. The journey on the mayflower and thanksgiving. Europeans meeting and comunicating with indians. Also big tall hats.

  17. I think of the word Pilgrim but most people would think the same. I think of the formations of the 13 colonies as a good thing for someone in their life because their starting a new one and makeing there self better as a person , even though they have been through more than anyone who lives here now.

  19. When I see the word 'Puritans', I think of Pilgrims coming over to America. I think of the Mayflower and Thanksgiving and I think of 'The Scarlet Letter', because the main character is a Puritan. I also think of very religious and conservative people and the 1600s. When I think of the formation of the 13 colonies, what comes to mind is the American Revolution and Paul Revere. I also think of the king trying to take over American and the Boston Tea Party. I also think of the Declaration of Independence and the Fourth of July.

When I think Puritans, I think religion & history. I also think of the pilgrams and the indians. When I think of the 13 colonies, I think of people going out to explore new lands or people fleeing from the original village that was made. I am also reminded of all the people that came over to the new world. All because of religion.

  21. When I hear the word "Puritans" I think of pilgrims and the Mayflower. It reminds me of Thanksgiving. But it also makes me think of the lives they led. It was all very simple and strict. I would never want to live like a Puritan. It would be a very difficult life and I don't think it would be much fun. Puritan life was too strict, too boring, and too plain for my taste.

  22. When I think of the word Puritans I think of the pilgrims who came to America across the Mayflower. I also think of a very strong religious based people and there strong ties to god. The author suggest "I may not omit here a special power work of God's providence" (24). He is referring to the landing of their ship south of there destination. When I think of the 13 colonies I think of Ben Franklin because he is the father of the constitution.

  25. When I see the work 'Purtians' the word pure come to my mind. Maybe because they want to keep they're religion pure by saling across the ocean to America. Or because north America was new land with no other civilization besides the Native Indians. When I think of the formation of the 13 colonies I think of pilgrims settling along the new england states. Creating schools and buisness and finally making America their home.

  26. When I see the word "Puritans" i think of very strict colonial people who are extremely religious. They don't have very much fun. They are plain and boring almost. The formation of the 13 colonies makes me think of the very beginning of our nation. These are the people who are going to set the foundation for our nation. Reading how they went along forming the government and everything else shows how we still go along doing the same as them today. We follow the same basic rules with modern twists. We are deffinately a more free country today then they were back then.
