Summer Reading

How do you feel the Summer Reading test went?  What could you have done differently?  Did you have trouble connecting your novel to the question?

  1. I feel I didn't do all so well. The question wasn't really all that hard to relate with my book, but the fact that I wasn't expacting that question, it caught me off gaurd. I only had about one quote from the book in there, and I doubt that helped my at all, I should've added more, but with the time constraint I feared that I didn't have enough time. The main character of The Catcher In The Rye, Holden was easily related to the story, but with not a whole lot of evidence put behind my words, it might not seem to prove much at all. I hope I did well, and had a great time reading the book, it was as good as people said it was, and I would indeed read it again.

  2. well my teacher last year didnt really tell us about summer reading... so i was unprepared and did not read a book. i also had to read two books.i feel i did not answer my question to the best of my ability because i didnt know what these books were about.i hate summer reading.

  3. I feel the Summer Reading test went well. The test was not as bad as I thought it would be. Some things I could have done differently was read over the notes we took on papers in class. I didn't have any problems connecting the novel to the question. When I saw the question on the board I knew the three people I was going to use. I could have put one quote for each person I chose, but instead I put a quote for Holden and Mr. Antolini and not Phoebe.

  4. I feel I didn't do that well. I always struggle a little bit with my first essay and I don't always remember the material I read over summer. I could of done some things differently to help me. I could have taken notes during my reading to help me remember. I also, could have discussed the novel with more people incase they remembered something I didn't. I didn't have that much trouble connecting my question the novel. I think it was easy to relate to the story.

  5. I think summer reading actually went very well. I like that we didn't have to do an essay or project over the summer. I don't think there was anything I could of done differently. I read the book and studied the notes that Ms. Powers had on the board which helped me out a lot. I did'nt have any problem connecting the novel to the question. I think the question was very easy to answer and explain. I worked from the time I walked into class until the time the bell rang.

  6. The teacher i had at the end of the year didnt tell us about the reading. If i would of known about the book i would of spent the time and read the book. I did read a few pages the night before but it didnt do anything. I guess i did okay with what i read but i had no idea. Also the book was really old. Mybe a better book next year will be good.

  7. I think that my summer reading test went okay. I wish I would have taken notes while reading my book so I was more prepared for the test. And I also think that I could have managed my time a little bit differently while taking the test. I did have some trouble trying to connect the novel to the question that was asked. I didn't really understand the question, but I tried my best to answer it.

  8. I would say i did okay with summer reading. The teacher i had last year did not inform me about summer reading so there for i was not prepared at all. As soon as i found out about summer reading, which was the first day of school, i went out and got the book and read quickly. I was able to finish my book intime for the test. If i was told about it last year i feel i would have deffitally done much better. The book i chose was Cat on A Hot Tin Roof. I thought it was a very interesting book but i liked it.

  9. I feel that the summer reading test went very bad. something i could have done differently is actully read the book. Instead of writeing random stuff.the question seemed easly connected with the book in my opinion though because i didnt read and was able to awnser the question kinda of.

  11. I have mixed feelings about the summer reading. I am fairly proud of how I was able to make a cohesive conclusion. But I'm also concerned that I may not have answered the question sufficiently. Holden reports the events through such a subjective view, so it's difficult to know why a character is phony or not. Eventually I just thought I'd analyze a character and identify why Holden dislikes them, which I thought worked fairly well. All in all, I'm satisfied with the finished product.

  12. I thought it was really easy... If you read the book then you should've done well!

  13. Noticing whether a character is good or bad is simple. Describing how the author does this is a little harder. One period for a 5 paragraph essay without knowing the question/topic is ludacris! 3 paragraphs is understanding but 5 is out of this world!

  14. I feel I didn't do well at all. I also feel I could have learned alot more about the characters of the novel so I could conect them better to the essay. I feel that the question was terribly vague and incredibly hard for a person like me who have a hard time connecting to novels i dont like at all. So I had a terrible time connecting the question to the novel.

  16. overall the topic to write about was perrrty easy. allthough i left last school year a few weeks early. So, i did not know that we would have to do a summer reading book and write a paper on it. so i was informed on the second day of school that i was going to have to write an essay on a book that i did not know i had to read. so even though it would have been really easy, i didnt know what to write. i wish i knew ahead of time about this summer reading. Then i would have gotten a good grade on the paper instead of not knowing what the main charecters name was.

    Sincerly,
    TROGDOR THE BURNIATOR.

  17. I think that overall, the summer reading test was fairly easy. I didn't really like the question, but I didn't have a hard time answering it. I think I wrote a reasonable amount to answer the question. Maybe I could have went more into detail with a couple of characters I put in my essay, but I knew there wasn't much time to do all of that. As far as connecting the novel to the question, I think I did okay. There may have been parts where I was rushing a little bit, but I think I did pretty well.

  18. Well since i didnt read the book, I would have to say it went pretty well since I didnt have to do anything over "my" summer break. I could have been notified that we needed to read the book, or I could have read it. I didnt have any problem connecting the novel with the question after I got a general idea about the book.

  19. The summer reading book I read was Cat on A Hot Tin Roof. It was a little hard to understand, but i got the basic idea of it. I could have read the book more over the summer to understand it better.

  20. I feel the summer reading test did not go as well as I would have liked. I had trouble including quotes that would help me prove the point I was trying to reach. If I was to do someting differenly it would be to read the book closer to the end of summer so I would remember more of the details. Also, I could have taken notes while reading so I would have had something to look over before writing the essay. I did not have trouble connecting my novel to the question. It was a very general question that could be answered about any novel.

  21. I know that I didnt do well on my summer reading, becuase my teacher did not imform are class of any books we had to read or any five paragraph essay that we would have to right the first Monday back. There for i did not read my book till the Sunday befor we wrote the essay. and i think i probley failed. i had a very hard time conecting with my book because i had to read it very fast.

  22. i feel like the summer reading was not acceptable due to our EX english teacher not informing us of it. thanks boss. i could have taken more notes and made it better. not really because there was alot of diffferent characters with different personality's. ;) <3

  23. I thought the summer reading test went well. I could've chosen better characters to use and used more examples but for the amount of time I had I think it was fine. It was fairly easy, as all essays generally are. I had a full 5 paragraphs with quotes, an intro, and conclusion. All essays go well as long as every question involved is answered. I believe I will receive a fair grade that I'll be happy with.

  24. I think I could of done better on the summer reading test. I started reading earlier on in the summer and then finished the book closer to the end. I feel like if I would of read it all together I could remember parts better. I also didn't like the book that much, so maybe a different book would have made it better. I knew what I needed to do for the question, but I just think I couldn't answer it the right way.

  26. I don't think I did so good on the summer reading test. Its not that it was a hard question, it was just hard for me to connect my book to it. Im also not that great at writing essays either, so that didn't help the situation. I do think I did better on summer reading essays other years then I did this year though. What I would have done differently would be reading my book closer to the end of summer so i could remember everything. I also would have written note as I read it to look back on.

  27. ALet's see... The hardest part about summer reading was the reading. Summer seemed to creep by slowly, but the school year quickly approached and before I knew it, it was time and I had barely read any of the book. I was somewhat relieved that I had another week, but I knew that I was going to procrastinate until the last moment. As for the question, it was difficult since the characters in my book seemed to be neutral. They weren't good and they weren't bad. It seemed like their traits balanced out. It was quite confusing and the question said not to use morality also I tried not to, but it was difficult and I don't think I made a good essey. Oh well.

  28. I don't think I did so good on the summer reading test. The reason is that the teacher I had at the end of the year didn't tell us about the reading. Something I wold have done differently would be actually read the book at not sparknotes it and I would call the schools main office and ask about the summer reading. I did have a hard time connecting the question to the book because there was a lot of different people in the book Catcher in the Rye and since Holden was very nervous his prespective on people was wierd.

  29. I think I did well on the summer reading test. I thought the question was really easy. Coming up with negative and positive characters was easy for Catcher in the Rye. I did better on this one than previous years too. I thought the book selection this year wasn't good or maybe people would have cared to do the reading over the summer. Then they would've had time to re-read the book and receive a good grade instead of a mediocre one.

  30. The Summer reading test didn't go so well I think. The book was good, but essays aren't really my strong point. Also remebering to bring my book for quotes helps to. I usually read the book at the end of summer in august after my vacation, but other things led differently so I read it in July. My book was the Killer Angels and it looked good, so I was hoping it didn't end up like the WWI book Mr. Straughn(excuse the spelling) gave us. Just hope there will be some goods books for next year.

  31. How do you feel the Summer Reading test went? What could you have done differently? Did you have trouble connecting your novel to the question? I think it went really well, even though I knew nothing about it. The book was good but i wouldnt want to read it again. I could of took my time and read the book instead of rushing it. The question was really easy to connect with the book.

I didn't like the book I read had to read at all. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn didn't keep my interest at all, plus it was hard to follow. Writing the essay for the book was easy enough, coming up with positive and negative characters. The main problem was that I wasn't able to finish the book because I couldn't stay focused in it. The essay was also not finished, due to a lack of time to me. my book essays are never good, & this one is no exception.

  33. I feel that the summer reading test went okay. It was hard to remember everything that had happened throughout the whole book though. Connecting the question and the book together wasn't too difficult, but it would have helped if I had made notes while reading to help specific events.

  34. The summer reading was easy. I could have prepared myself more for the test by going over what I knew and looking through for quotes i could have used. I was a little rusty writing in the correct form. But once school is going again I can get back into it. My book went mostly by chronological order, so it was very easy for me to relate my book to the question. It flips back and forth between both sides during the same time. Giving you an outlook on what both parties are deciding and how they are feeling at that moment. I really enjoyed the book.
