Well poes writings contain alot more information then most of the other authors. Also they are more intersesting and you can actually pay attention to them. Poe is placed in horror categories because they are the most memorable ones. All religion, my friend, is simply evolved out of fraud, fear, greed, imagination, and poetry. " All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream". I think his writings teach morals about the real life. Most other authors writings arent as good as his.

  2. Poe is different from the authors that we have been reading thus far. The authors we've been reading have been for the most part, very optimistic. They talk about nature and how to accept death. They're all about the bright side of things. Poe is a dark and twisted author. He talks in first person, which is unusual and is very horrific. Poe even confesses to having a disease and being crazy, "The disease had sharpened my senses, not destroyed, not dulled them."

  3. Poe is a much more of a darker writer then what we have read so far. This first story we have read from him, the narrator first off comes out and says that he is mentally insane. In the other American Renaissance authors only talk about nature, god, and the beauty that goes with it. To were Poe comes out and gives a realistic and dark visual of a mad man. "I placed my hand upon the heart and held it there many minutes. There was no pulsation. He was stone dead. His eve would trouble me no more." This again shows how Poe gave his reader a dark and different read in the time of happier works about nature.

  4. Poe is different then any of the authors that we have been reading because his writing is very dark. Poe writes about something that are odd and things that you would not think would be written about. He also talks in first person which is really odd for a author. Poe is placed in the horror category for many reasons. For one, what he writes about is about death, and being alone. "Darkness there and nothing more."

  5. Poe is very different from the authors we have been reading so far. The authors up to now in the American renaissance period have been very optimistic and have a positive outlook on life. So far, all the stories have talked about nature and life and how to accept death as a good thing. Poe is much more dark and writes alot more violent stories. Poe starts off his poem The Raven by saying "Once upon a midnight dreary". Poe starts off the very first sentence with a frightening image. These stories make him fall into the horror category.

  6. Poe is very different from the authors we have previously read. His writing is much more dark and disturbing. He delves into the dark, horrifying part of the human psyche. He makes us see humans in a light that is horrifying and sickening, which puts him the genre of horror. All of the previous authors focus on god and the beautiful aspects of life. They put a light on everything even if it was death it was described as just a cycle. Poe on the other hand says death is only a way out of life and it is not uncommon to read about gruesome deaths in Poe's writings. In the story "The Tell-Tale Heart", the narrator has a severe mental illness which makes his hearing very acute, he believes that the old man can see into his soul and he is relieved when he kills him. "The old man was dead. I removed the bed and examined the corpse. Yes, he was stone, stone dead. I placed my hand upon the heart and held it there many minutes. There was no pulsation. He was stone dead. His eye would trouble me no more." The dark twisted, yet calm way the narrator tells you that this isn't a normal story. He also tells the reader in a very calm manner of the way he disposed of the old man's body. "I took up three planks from the flooring of the chamber, and deposited all between the scantlings. I then replaced the boards so cleverly so cunningly, that no human eye -- not even his -- could have detected anything wrong. There was nothing to wash out -- no stain of any kind -- no blood-spot whatever. I had been too wary for that." The description of his efficiency of disposing his body tells you that you are reading a horror story. While, everyone was writing about the happiness in nature. Poe discovered the most horrifying in the world. Ourselves.

  7. Poe is very different from the other authors we have read this far. Poe is so different from the other authors because he writes in first person and uses a dark tone in all of his writings. While the other authors write about nature and a perfect society. Poe is in the horror category because of his dark and twisted tone. He writes in first person which allows him to describe things in his writings in his own dark and twisted tone. "I was never kinder to the old man than during the whole week before I killed him." (The Tell-Tale Heart)

  8. Poe makes the readers feel a sense of fear or suspense in his stories. He gives as an imagination that the world is dreary and gloomy, death is all around us. Poe is definitely crazy, you can tell by his style of writing, which always has to do with death. Its one thing to write about death, but committing murder or a horrific crime is what gives us the fear in reading his stories. For example when he cuts up the old man’s body and places it in the floor boards, the heart starts beating and drives him more insane then he already is. Edgar Allen Poe establishes his craziness in one of his stories, tell-tale heart. “First of all I dismembered the corpse. I cut off the head and the arms and the legs.” The man’s one eye that was colored different then his other drove Poe insane, therefore he killed him and dissembled his body and placed it I the floorboards.

  9. Poe is different from the other authors that we have read so far, because the other authors have talked about in there stories about appecting death and how its just a part of life. And very outgoing with there stories. Although Poe, in his writings he talks about death a saddness throughout his life, he talks in the first person and about sorrow and unusal things. "The disease had sharpened my senses, not destroyed, not dulled them".

  10. Poe is different then the other authors that we read about, because the other authors talk about nature and being one with nature. Poe writes about sickness and death. Poe is put in the horror category because all his works are dark. " He was stone dead. His eve would trouble me no more."

Poe is completely different from all of the other authors we have read, mainly because his words make you feel what he wants you to feel. All of the other authors give you a happy and joyful theme. He has a very good way of describing the atmosphere and making you feel the horror he wants. Poe is in the horror category simply because of his cruel, foul writings about killings, and creepy people in a disturbing setting. In one of his storys, Poe writes; "I took up three planks from the flooring of the chamber, and deposited all between the scantlings. I then replaced the boards so cleverly so cunningly, that no human eye -- not even his -- could have detected anything wrong. There was nothing to wash out -- no stain of any kind -- no blood-spot whatever. I had been too wary for that." This is an example of the kind of author Poe was, and the horror that his words can cause.

  12. Poe is much different from the other authors we have read this year. Poe is darker and much more mysterious. He places himself in the horror category because he rights stories about death and suspense. The way he describes his setting and characters, it just creep you out. Also, he makes it scary but using things such as alliteration, conosance, internal rhyme. The way he writes it, makes it fun and easy to want to read. "What this grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt and ominous bird of yore
Meant in croaking "Nevermore." (Edgar Allen Poe, The Raven.)

  14. Poe is very diffrent from many other authors we have read. He writes about much more dark things then any other poet. He talks about how dark and misterious things are. Also he is very insane in witch he says somethings. I think he should be in a category of his own. "For his gold I had no desire. I think it was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture --a pale blue eye, with a film over it" no sane man would think about killing a man without being greedy and wanting to take his money.

  15. Poe is very different from from any of the other authors we have read and studied so far. He is very dramatic, and brings horror and fear into his works. He wants to make the reader feel fearful and how he felt when writing his works. In his famous poem, "The Raven", he says, "And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor"(p282). In just that one line of a poem, he emphasizes death, and sorrow. He is well known for being able to write such horrific and fearful stories and poems.

  16. Poe is just strange. He still has parts that I read and barely understand because he describes one thing. It's different though about the things he writes about. I wouldn't say that it's scary but it is creepy. When he talks about death, uses darkness of the night, and has super human abilities who kill people, thats the reason why it's horror. People from back them much of been more scared then some people of today.

  17. Poe has a very different form of writing than the others we have read so far. His writings are much more dark and dreary. He expresses mental illness,"The disease had sharpened my senses, not destroyed, not dulled them". He talks a lot about death, while the other authors would talk about life, and nature, with happier things.

  18. Poe is just really strange. Poe is much darker and a lot more mysterious. He talks a lot about death and people with mental illnesess. " The disease had sharpened my senses, not destroyed, not dullied them". Poe just isnt like the other authors he has his own twisted style.

  19. Poe is different from other authors in the sense that his style, ideas, and word choices are quite distinctive. He uses words that are uncommon and generally more eloquent. He also is limitless when it comes to describing gruesome scenes, and he doesn't hide his ideas, he embraces them. He belongs in the horror category because he delves into horrific categories such as cutting people up or ghosts and zombies murdering people, but with sophisticated wording. My favorite piece by Poe is Annabel Lee. It's a beautiful poem about the death of some sort of loved one "The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
    Went envying her and me
Yes! that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee". This shows that he truly is limitless with the things he writes about.

  20. Poe is very strange from most of the authors we read this year. He is very unique and has horror and fear and each of his pieces of work. He makes his readers constantly feel scared or worried or filled with fear when reading his poems and short stories. In his poem "The Raven" he says "Eagerly I wished the morrow vainly I had sought to borrow From my books surcease of sorrow - sorrow for the lost Lenore For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels named Lenore Nameless here for evermore."(pg 282). In that one section of the poem he is filled with sorrow with of loss of his wife Lenore and feels as if he will never be able to move on and forget her. He is always known to be depressed in each of his stories.

  21. Poe's writings are more detailed then other authors. His books are eye catching. His writings seem to often be more dark and dreary. He writes very interesting and kinda suspenseful and moving. He also has a soft and touching side to him , he has good words of wisdom " All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream" everyone can relate to his writings .

  22. Poe is extremely different from any other author we read. Every author we've studied has always looked on the bright side of life, or showed appreciation for nature and it's beauty. But Poe's mind seems to be different than normal humans. His thoughts focus on dark, miserable occurrences in life from his psychotic point of view. All of his writings so far could be placed in the horror category due to the details, events, and settings. Metal illness that creates an eerie tone is always included in his stories. Spooky unstable characters are used, which usually die in some tragic matter. Lastly Poe's settings are dark, mysterious, and scary. "I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye for ever." (The Tell-Tale Heart, Poe) This quote was used in one of Poe's short stories explaining that he was going to kill a man because his one eye was too beautiful. Conclusively, we have never read literature like Edgar Allan Poe's.

  23. Poe is different from other writers because he is one of them that introduced horror into society. His writing also inspired the first detective novels like Sherlock Holmes. In his short stories he also puts many description words into very different things like in the telltale heart "The old stallion was dead. I removed the bed and examined the corpse. Yes, he was stone, stone dead. I placed my hoof upon the heart and held it there many minutes. There was no pulsation. He was stone dead. His eye would trouble me no more." he states this in the tell-tale heart. This is a bit long for a description of a heartbeat. descriptions like this make his stories more Gothic, dark, and they often involve mental illness. During this time however other writers wrote about happier subjects rather than what Poe wrote about.

  24. Poe is different from the other authors that we have been reading from because he is more of a darker writer then what we read before. What places Poe in the horror category is that with the first story the narrator pretty much says he is mentally insane. Where as with the other authors they talk about nature, beauty, and god. Where Poe shows in the first story that he is mad is when he writes " I placed my hand upon the heart an held it there many minutes. There was no pulsation. He was stone dead. His eye would trouble me no more". - Lauren cooney

  25. Poe is so different from the other authors that we have read this year, he is so different for his crazy style of writing. Poe includes things that most authors don't, that is why he is one of the best authors ever. His works are a lot darker than most and he always seems to be mentally ill some way in all of his writings."The old man was dead. I removed the bed and examined the corpse". This is from the Tell-Tale Heart and he kills the old man because of his evil eye, well this quote proves that he is somewhat of crazy because killing somebody just because of their eye, isnt normal. Those are the kinds of things that put Poe into the horror section and makes him one of the greatest authors in american history.

  26. Poe is vastly different from the other writers we have been studying because of the way he uses his writing gift. Whereas the other authors used words to be beautiful, lyrical and to enrich their readers, Poe uses his writings to disturb them. Even when the other authors would discuss death, it was still with flowery language and optimism. But Edgar Allan Poe is ghastly and grim when talking about the merest detail, giving something as unimportant as the color of a curtain a horrible significance. The major difference between Poe and the Romantics is that Poe is aware of how strongly words can affect those who read them, and he uses that knowledge to torture the mind. "And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,/And the lamplight o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;/And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor/ Shall be lifted-- nevermore!" This quote may refer to the titular Raven, but for some it could certainly be applied to Poe. His darkness lodges itself in the mind of those who let it in.

  27. Poe is different from any other author we've read so far. Poe's writings are more dark than anything else we've read. The atmosphere of his writings are usually dreary. What places Poe in the horror category is that his writings are dark. An example of something that would place him in the horror category is "if you still think me mad, you will think so no longer when I describe the wise precautions I took for the concealment of the body" (Poe). The narrator says this after killing an old man because of his eye that bothered him. Poe's writing is really different than the author authors. The things that we've read before Poe usually had something to do with nature or God.

  28. Poe is different from the authors that we have been reading so far this year. He is dramatic, and keeps a sense of horror and fear in his works. The best example of Poe's ability to instill fear is in his famous story "The Tell Tale Heart". In which Poe writes "I took up three planks from the flooring of the chamber, and deposited all between the scantlings. I then replaced the boards so cleverly so cunningly, that no human eye not even his could have detected anything wrong. There was nothing to wash out no stain of any kind no blood spot whatever. I had been too wary for that." As you can see he brings a sense of utter terror into his works and he shows a more gory side to writing.

  29. I feel that Poe is deranged. He goes deeper into the mind than any of the other writers we have studied. He goes pass the everyday human and into the imaginary. And he keeps a very heavy and steady beat in "The Raven". It really got to me when "Nevermore" (Poe) was repeating over and over and over. Even though it is only one word, it says so much along with everything else going on in the selection.

  30. Poe is very different then the other writers we have read. He is a very dark and morbid man. All of his stories involve something horrible like being buried alive or going crazy. In one of his stories, Poe writes about a man with two different colored eyes that drive the narrator insane so he kills him, "I cut off the head and the arms and the legs". Poe was a very mentally ill man and he incorporated that in his writings.
