Describe Atticus. What do we know about him so far?

  1. So far in the story we know Atticus as a good hearted man. Atticus always does what he believes is right, like how he is defending a black man in court. He also treats his kids with respect. He does not talk down to them just because they are young. Atticus treats Jem and Scout like he would treat any adult and tells them exactly how things are without making up little lies or leaving out big pieces of information. Atticus is also against war and guns, though he has the best shot in Maycomb. That is what we so far know about Atticus.

  2. As far as we've read, we know that Atticus is a kind, caring person. People in his community respect him, and he is fair and treats everyone else with the same respect they treat him. He is very well renowned in Maycomb, and usually talked about by others in a very positive way. He is very respectable and honorable, and takes good care of his children. He has a close relationship with his daughter Scout as well.

  3. Atticus has guided his children in the right direction. He is one of the few residents of Maycomb committed to racial equality. When he agrees to defend Tom Robinson, a black man charged with raping a white woman. He risks the concequences of himself and his family to the anger of the white community. Atticus is a good caring person/father, he isn’t afraid to speak honestly to his kids.

  4. So far in To Kill A Mockingbird, we know that Atticus believes in being a good man. Even if other poeple are against Atticus, he does what he believes is the right thing to do. He knows that he is going to lose the court case with Thomas Robinson since the Judge and the jury is white, but he still accepts his case. Atticus also treats Scout and Jem like they are adults. He talks to his kids just like talking to any other person, and he demands respect from them. Atticus is against violence and guns, although people call him "One Shot Finch" because he has the best shot in Maycomb.

P.S. Don't be grumpy and wear depressing clothes. be happy :)

  5. So far in the story we know that Atticus is a good father. Ms. Maudie tries explaining to the children that he is a good man. Atticus leads by exaple. He is deffending the black guy in court because he believes it is the moral thing to do. He could not ask his children to follow his rules if the did not do the right thing as well. Atticus is very straight forward with his children. He likes to treat them as they are adults. He is also very wise and knows lots of things in life. Atticus is well known in in the town of Maycomb and has a very good gun shot as well.

  6. Up until chapter 11, we know that Atticus tends to keep to himself, and is different than most of the men in Maycomb County. Instead of going out and playing poker or hunting, Atticus likes to read. It's one of his favorite things to do. Unlike other adults who have children, he treats his kids like adults and lets them make their own choices. If they make a mistake, he lets them learn from their mistakes themselves. We also discovered that Atticus isn't a big fan of war and guns, even though he used to have the best shot in Maycomb and he ended up being the one to get rid of the maddog.

  7. Atticus is a very respectable and respected man. He's kind and is not discriminatory against anyone. He does what he believes is right and he teaches his kids to do the same. Some people don't appreciate some of the things he does, like the fact that he's defending a black man in court. Sometimes, his kids get negative treatment because of the good things he does because others don't believe in the same things he does. He treats his children with respect and maturity and he is very intelligent, despite the fact he has never gone to school. He is against violence but is ironically known as 'One Shot Finch' in Maycomb.

  8. We know that Atticus is a kind person and morally good. He talks to his kids with respect & treats them like adults when he talks to them, as we learned with in the "school talk" with Scout. He also treats other people with respect, like the mean old Mrs. Dubose who keeps making fun of all the Finchs. It was also learned that he hates guns, but he is the best shot in Maycomb county. That is what we know about Atticus.

  10. So far in the story, we know Atticus is a genrous well rounded man, who is kind to everyone. Gives everybody the benefit of the doubt, and also has respect for everyone. He treats his kids as if they were adults because he wants the to taste the reality in the world instead of sufficate them with not knowing what actually goes on, and allows them to make their own descions for what they think is right. He was one of the orignials in Maycomb, was a laywer, and doesnt believe for guns, but allows his kids to make their own decisions about it.

  12. Thus far in the story we know that Atticus is a good man and a great shot. His nick name is one shot Atticus due to his skill with a gun, despite the fact that he is against war and guns. We also know that he is an older, feeble man but he is very couragous. He treats everyone fairly especialy his kids. They are treated as though they are adults Atticus shows them great respect and explains things to them that most kids their age wouldn't understand in that time period. So far that is all we know about Atticus Finch.

  14. Atticus is a respectful man. He treats his kid think they are little adults. Atticus doesnt tell the kids what to believe or learn. He just kind of lets them go through life learning things themself. But when the kids ask him a question about something, he is completely honest with them.

  15. Atticus is a passive person. He doesn't like to sugar-coat things, so he tends to tell people the truth, including his own children. He tries to hint at what direction he wants Jem and Scout to take, instead of restricting them. He doesn't partake in the gossip and rumors about the Radleys. He seems to believe in equality, and he doesn't listen to what the town says about him defending Tom Robinson. Atticus treats everyone with respect even if they don't show him the same kindness. The only "rule" he gives his children is that it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.

  17. Atticus is about 50 years old. He is an older man for having kids so young. Jem and scout see him as an older, more feeble because he does not do what the other fathers do. He treats Jem and Scout like mature adults though they are so young. He is always truthful with his children and always tries to teach them right from wrong and set a good example for them. Atticus is a very kind hearted man who knows what is right and should be done even if it means ruining his reputation.

  23. So far in the story we know quite a bit about Atticus. We know he has a mature relationship with his children, even Scout who he has treated like an adult the entire time in the story, and so far she has not excelled past second grade. We know he is an old lawyer and a hard worker. He is an honest man who knows much about many things. He is insightful and treats everyone with good manners, even if they don't seem to deserve it. He does whatever he can for anyone who asks, or even those who don't. He is a helping hand. He is a friend, never a foe. He is, in my opinion, the hero of the story.

He is a very good shoot and he never told his kids that. He feels threats are necessary to teach his kids a lesson. He taught Scout hot to read and write.

  28. Atticus is a person who likes to give people the facts, and then lets them make their inferences. This is the quality that make him a good father, among other things. Instead of laying things out in black and white for the Finch children, he explains things to them fully and just guides them in the right direction. This is also what makes Atticus a good lawyer. Swaying the opinion of common, stupid, racist people is like dealing with bright children. You have to talk at their level. Atticus is quite intelligent at this, and he's also a crack-shot for when he needs to kill people who don't see sense. Or so I infer. See, he's already done his job!

Atticus Finch is caring and responsible father to his children as well as being a good brother to his own brother and sister. Atticus returned to his roots in Maycombe where he is related to almost every family in the town. He understands people and their problems no matter who they are. He comes from solid stock who worked the land for generations unbroken until he became a lawyer and his brother became a doctor. He's the best shot in the county. He treats everyone with respect.

  33. Atticus is a very cautious man. He takes every situation in with the most careful and thought way. He listens to both sides of the story and makes a decision equal to both parties. No matter what everyone else thinks or says, he knows what is right and what is wrong. People are entitled to their own opinion. He is very well mannered and polite. He really is my favorite character from the story. He brought his children up to understand the world for themselves, not to fit into society, but to learn their place as children and have respect for elders. Also not to listen and get hyped about the gossip in the town.

  36. Atticus Finch has two siblings, Alexandra Finch who lives back hom on what use to be called Finch's Landing and also a brother. He had paid for his schooling when his brother wanted to become a doctor. He has two children; Jeremy Atticus Finch and Jean Louise Finch. He is widowed and lives in Maycomb County. He works as a defense attourney. Although his children are very young he treats them like adults. He is a very kind man and he doesn't put on an act for the people of Maycomb county when he goes out. He's old, age 50. Although he doesn't condone his children using guns, he has the nickname of "One-Shot Atticus." Although the origin of the nickname has yet to be told it is assumed that the nickname has to do with how he can shoot once and hit his target with the way he shot and killed Tim Johnson with only one shot. He is going blind in his left eye and doesn't think it a sin to kill blue jays but he believes it is a sin to kill a mockingbird.
